The application process for the 2026 Internship program has closed. SCKLS welcomes inquiries for the 2027 Internship program which will open January 1, 2027.
The South Central Kansas Library System and its 144 public, school, academic and special library members encourage and foster the professional development and training of new librarians through an annual internship program. Interns may work with SCKLS staff and with member librarians in our twelve-county Kansas service area. The paid internship can be designed to assist the intern in developing experience in the following areas:
- Administration
- Automation/Technology
- Interlibrary Loan/Cataloging
- Instruction/Training/Continuing Education
- Programming for Adults/Youth
- General Library Service
- Directed Research
Eligibility and Application
Eligibility for application to the SCKLS internship program is open to the following:
- Any graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in a library course of study at a university or college in the United States.
- Any graduate of a library course of study within 18 months of graduation.
- Any graduate of a library course of study who was employed for at least 2 consecutive years and who desires to return to library employment after an absence of greater than 5 years.
The conditions and times of the internship are determined by SCKLS with consideration for the intern's goals and availability. The prospective intern should prepare a letter of application addressing their area(s) of interest and a statement of the applicant’s experience and professional goals. Applicants will be contacted within 15 days of receipt of application regarding the status of their internship application.
