The SCKLS System Board met October 30, 2017 in Wichita to
elect candidates to open Executive Committee positions and approve bylaws
The Executive Committee is the 13-member governing body for
the South Central Kansas Library System.
Kristin Sen is the Chair of the Derby Public Library and was
elected for a second four-year term in the At-Large Position on the Executive
Gail Niles Stucky is Co-Director of the Bethel College
Library, North Newton and was elected to a second four-year term in the
At-Large Position II. Stucky is also currently vice-chair of the SCKLS
Gail Becker is Supervisor of Library Media & Textbook
Services, USD 259 Wichita Public Schools and was elected for a first four-year
term in the Public School District Libraries position.
Kerri Steffen is the Director of the Cunningham Public
Library and was elected to the Gateway Public Library position. Jane Lee,
Chair of the Partridge Public Library had decided not to seek at second
Eldon Younce is the Director of the Anthony Public Library
and was elected to a second four year term in the Service Center I Public Library
Susan Woodard is Director of the Cheney Public Library and
was elected to a second term for the Service Center II position. Woodard is
also currently the Treasurer of the SCKLS Executive Committee.
Terms of office for the newly elected positions begin in
January 2018 and end in December 2021. The Executive Committee meets on the
third Friday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at various locations throughout the
twelve county SCKLS service area. As provided for in Kansas Statutes
Annotated (KSA) 75-2550a and SCKLS Bylaws, the Executive Committee has the
authority to “set policy, hire a System Director and conduct system business on
a month to month basis between meetings of the system board.”
Also at the October 30 System Board Meeting, revised SCKLS

were authorized by a vote of 36 in favor and none opposed. The revisions
provide compliance with Kansas House Bill 2102. Kansas House Bill 2102 became
law July 2017 and transfers appointment authority for county representatives to
the System Board from the Governor to the respective county commissions of each
county in the SCKLS service area.
